The serene woodblock print 'Nigatsu-dō' (Nigatsu-dō Hall of Tōdai-ji Temple, Nara) by Masao Ido (1945–2016) beautifully captures the tranquil morning scene along the Nigatsu-dō Urasandō pathway. Nigatsu-dō is a Buddhist hall within Tōdai-ji Temple in Nara City and is designated as a National Treasure of Japan. This rear approach, located just below Nigatsu-dō Hall, is renowned as one of the most beautiful paths in Tōdai-ji. Its stone-paved walkway and earthen walls exude timeless charm. Bathed in gentle morning light, the quiet approach evokes a fresh and sacred atmosphere, perfectly conveyed in Ido’s composition.
