The wonderful woodblock print "Shiroi Hana"(White Flower) is by Iwao Akiyama (1921- 2014). Printed on tasteful Japanese washi paper. Very large size. The poem on the top is a famous haiku (poem) by Santoka. It says "It was a white flower that finally bloomed". Santoka describes the white flower in his book. To put it simply, when he was young, he admired and searched for colorful red and blue flowers. The red flowers withered and crumbled, and the blue flowers were nowhere to be found.
At that time, when he found a small white flower hidden in the wild bush clover, he smelled such a pure and noble scent, and he realized what he was looking for was a white flower. Through his life experience, he learned the value of simple beauty, not the glamorous appearance. I imagine that the artist probably felt the same feeling when he saw this loving woman's white back. This print has a touching subject.

This print shows modern and cool Japanese beauty. Very exotic and mysterious mood. Japanese Sarasa is a type of Japanese Kimono fabric with a chintz pattern printed. I just want to add information about his model. Her name is Yufu (written Yufu but called Yuu, a very old way to read) She was his student at Tama Art University. Kayama had used the same model 'Yuu" for 13 years and he made 3,500 sketches of her. Her husband is also Kayama's student and artist. I read a book and it was very interesting. Yuu became a Nihon-ga (Japanese painting), artist, after retiring from being the model for Kayama.

They were many kept girls by a man in Tsukiji of the Meiji era. The woman who appeared to see off the man who returned early in the morning of early fall. The empty sadness that does not know when he next comes. She put a kimono ( called Awase) on chest (heart) on the bare skin unintentionally in unlined clothes, the morning when it is cold. Few flowers of the reluctance of leaving look like just a woman standing still."
