Hanjiro Sakamoto (1882 - 1969) was born in Fukuoka prefecture. He is a well-known Western-style painter. Very lovely birds and flowers print with wonderful colors.
Jakuchu Ito (1716-1800) was a well-known Japanese painter of the mid-Edo period. He studied Kano painting in Kyoto where he was born as the son of a rich merchant. He became a famous artist as a painter and printmaker of exotic birds, flowers, and Buddhist subjects. The artists' realistic painting style became a source of inspiration for late 19th and early 20th-century kacho-e (flowers and birds) prints and paintings.

Japanese woodblock print "Shiawaseni" (Be Happy) is by Fu Takenaka (b.1945). Now out of print. In Japan, owls bring luck and offer protection from suffering. The reason can be found in the Japanese name for owl, Fukuro, which can be written in different sets of characters: One with the meaning of luck ( fuku, luck; ku, to come; ro suffix used in boys' names), and the other as protection from hardship ( fu, no, kurou hardship, suffering). In Japan, owls bring luck and offer protection from suffering. "Niwatori" (Chickens) by Tekiho Imoto (1909 -) Tekiho Imoto was born in Oita prefecture in 1909. He studied at Kyoto Painting College under very famous artist Insho Domoto. The publisher is Doi hangaten (Eiichi Doi). Publisher copyright seal "Hanken shoyuu Doi Eiichi, carver name "Harada" and Printer name " Seki " in the left margin. Signed Tekiho with red artist seals in left of the image. Doi watermarked in the upper left margin. This print was printed in the '80s. Musashino no tsuki (Musashi Plain Moon) from Tsuki Hyakushi (One Hundred Aspects of the Moon)
Very beautiful woodblock print is by Yoshitoshi Tsukioka (1839-1892). "Musashino no Tsuki"(Musashi Plain Moon) from Tsuki Hyakushi (One Hundred Aspects of the Moon), this is re-carved edition from the Showa era. First printed Meiji 19 nen (1886). Signed on the left of the image. This elegant re-carved edition is by Ukiyo-e Hanga Kankokai. Published by Nihon Bijutsuga kai. This reproduction set was sold only by the publisher in those days, not at dealers or bookstores. So it is really difficult to find nowadays. Copy right seal, Carver's name, Kentaro Maeda, Printer's name, Sakuji Tanaka on the verso. Selected great two carvers (Maeda and Okura) and two printers (Tanaka and Watanabe) worked on this project. It is a really high-quality print. The carving and the printing is faithful to the original. Just stunning and beautiful. Please see the details.
Tsukioka Yoshitoshi(1839-1892) is very famous Ukiyo-e artist. In 1850, when he was 11 years old, Yoshitoshi was apprenticed to Utagawa Kuniyoshi, one of the great masters of the Japanese woodblock print. Yoshitoshi created modern ukiyo-e depicting warriors, actors, and Bijin.
