The exquisite woodblock print “Ginkaku-ji” (Ginkaku-ji Temple in Autumn, Kyoto) by Masao Ido (1945–2016) beautifully depicts the serene elegance of Ginkaku-ji Temple, also known as the Silver Pavilion, surrounded by vibrant autumn foliage. The contrast between the tranquil temple and the rich seasonal colors creates a quietly atmospheric scene.

Built in the 15th century by Shogun Yoshimasa Ashikaga as a retirement villa, Ginkaku-ji embodies the refined wabi-sabi aesthetic of simplicity and understated beauty. Though never covered in silver, its Zen gardens—especially the raked “Sea of Silver Sand”—reflect moonlight, giving the temple its evocative name. Officially known as Jisho-ji, Ginkaku-ji is a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site and one of Kyoto’s most iconic landmarks.
