The stunning large-format serigraph print 'Yokawa Chudo of Enryaku-ji Temple on Mt. Hiei in Autumn' by Yukio Katsuda (b. 1941) beautifully captures the brilliant autumn scenery of Enryaku-ji Temple on Mt. Hiei in Shiga Prefecture.

Enryaku-ji, a historic monastery founded in the 8th century, is divided into three main areas: the East Pagoda, the West Pagoda, and Yokawa. This print highlights Yokawa Chudo Hall, located in the innermost precinct and included in the New Saigoku Pilgrimage. With its stage-like design, the hall is both commanding and elegant. The current structure was rebuilt after the original was destroyed by lightning in 1942. Katsuda’s print vividly conveys the brilliant autumn foliage of Yokawa, making it one of the most captivating views of Mt. Hiei.

The edition number "H.C 9/20," title "NO.184," the artist’s hand-signed signature "Y. Katsuda," and the date "'85" along with the artist’s red seal, are inscribed in pencil on the bottom margin.

*'Ryu-ga' is a unique technique the artist developed through years of dedicated study in pursuit of his own form of expression. Each work is created by meticulously layering paint through countless tiny holes in the block, building depth and texture with every application.
