- Summer Fan, 1968 -

This beautiful small-format woodblock print is by Takeo Takei (1894–1983). The print features a Japanese fan with a bird design and subtle linear embossing. It was created for a 1968 calendar and published by Chikuho-do. This handmade woodblock print would be perfect décor for a small space and would also make a wonderful gift for someone born in June 1968.

Takeo Takei was born in 1894 in Okaya, Nagano Prefecture. He was active across many artistic fields from the Taishō to Shōwa eras, including children’s illustrations, woodblock prints, illustrated books, and designs for toys and playing cards. His works are based on familiar subjects, resulting in pieces that are simple, heartwarming, and highly popular in Japan. A museum dedicated to his work is located in his hometown of Okaya, Nagano Prefecture..
