- Seiyo nashi to Kotori to (Western Pear and Bird) -

A charming woodblock print by Japanese artist Gashu Fukami, depicting a stylized blue bird beside a green Western pear against a vivid green field. A second pear-shaped shadow is partially visible at the upper edge. The simplified shapes and lively colors give the composition a playful, contemporary feel. The print is numbered 37/50, signed in pencil, and titled in Japanese in the bottom margin.

Gashu Fukami (1953–2023) was born in Kumamoto Prefecture. After graduating from Doshisha University in 1976, he was inspired by printmakers Umetaro Azechi and Takeji Asano to pursue woodblock printing. He later studied art in Boston and established studios in Kyoto, Nagasaki, and Fukuoka. His prints often feature familiar subjects such as cats, birds, flowers, and rural landscapes, rendered with warmth and humor.
