Gashu Fukami (1953–2023), born in Kumamoto Prefecture, was a Japanese woodblock print artist celebrated for his simple yet expressive style. After graduating from Doshisha University in 1976, he was inspired by renowned printmakers Umetaro Azechi and Takeji Asano to pursue woodblock printmaking. He later studied art in Boston before establishing studios in Kyoto, Nagasaki, and Fukuoka. His prints often portray familiar subjects—including cats, birds, flowers, and rural landscapes—with warmth, humor, and quiet charm.
