The striking woodblock print Satta Tōge Kaigan (The Coast at Satta Pass), from the series Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji, is by Tomikichiro Tokuriki (1902–2000). The print depicts the dramatic coastline at Satta Pass with remarkable clarity. Powerful waves crash against the dark rocky shore, while Mount Fuji rises peacefully in the distance beneath a pale blue sky. The energetic movement of the sea contrasts beautifully with the stillness of the mountain, creating a scene that is both dynamic and serene. The work exemplifies Tokuriki’s refined modern vision of the Japanese landscape.
Published by Uchida in Shōwa 15 (1940), this is the first edition. The right margin includes the Japanese title, the artist’s name, and the publisher’s name with a copyright seal. The lower left of the image features the artist’s signature, “Tomikichiro saku,” together with two red seals. The upper seal incorporates a Mt. Fuji emblem and “36-kei,” referring to the Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji series, while the lower seal is the publisher’s seal.

Condition: Overall, in good to fair condition for its age, with colors that remain vibrant. This print was acquired as found from an old estate in Japan and retains its original folder and small original explanatory sheet in Japanese. The print shows age toning and a visible window line corresponding to the opening of the original folder. There are a couple of extremely faint small spots in the image area near Mount Fuji, as well as some spots on the verso. The spots on the front are hardly noticeable to the casual observer, while those on the verso are visible. The folder itself shows considerable age-related staining and foxing throughout, and the original explanatory sheet has a tear along the lower edge. Due to these condition issues, the price has been reduced accordingly. Please refer to the photographs for details.
