The remarkable woodblock print “Sakurajima” by Takeji Asano captures a striking view of the volcano. Sakurajima, the most active volcano in Japan, is located in Kagoshima Prefecture and is considered a symbol of the region. Amid a tranquil landscape, the volcano remains active, and the contrast between stillness and movement is beautifully expressed through the simple composition.
The title 'Sakurajima' and the phrase Takeji ga, koku ("Drawn and carved by Takeji") appear in Japanese in the lower right corner of the image.
