- Rōsha no aru Fūkei (Scene of the Green Building), 1980 -

The fascinating print 'Rōsha no aru Fūkei' (“Scene of the Green Building”) from the series Sekai Himeisho Hyakkei (100 Unfamiliar Places in the World) by Hodaka Yoshida features a unique and historically significant subject. It depicts Takeo Kindergarten in Takefu, Fukui Prefecture. Originally constructed in 1899 as the Fukui Prefectural Police Department building, it was relocated from Fukui City in 1924 and repurposed as a kindergarten. The building, with its distinct green exterior and watchtower, is now a registered Tangible Cultural Property.

Yoshida was likely inspired by the building’s unusual green color and striking architecture, choosing to immortalize it through his art. The harmonious blending of the green walls with the sky and surrounding foliage creates a beautifully balanced composition. The print is pencil-signed, dated, titled, and numbered by the artist in the bottom margin. Although the edition was limited to only 150 prints, this particular piece is an artist proof (A.P.) The artist also wrote 'Takefu(location), 5.18.80' in the lower right corner of the image.
