The stunning silkscreen print 'Morioka no Funekko Nagashi' (Funekko-Nagashi Festival, Iwate) is by Masaaki Tanaka (b. 1947). This vibrant work captures the energy and atmosphere of a traditional Japanese summer festival held in Iwate Prefecture. The sheet number, Japanese title, and the artist’s signature are hand-signed in the bottom margin. Executed in silkscreen, the print has a distinctive richness of color and visual impact. This is a limited edition of only 50 impressions.

The Funekko-Nagashi Festival takes place near Meiji-bashi Bridge on the Kitakami River. During the event, boats adorned with lanterns and offerings for the Obon festival are set ablaze and released onto the river. This evocative ritual symbolizes the sending off of ancestral spirits and prayers for good health and protection from illness. The festival is designated as an Intangible Folk Cultural Property by Morioka City, and it attracts many visitors each year.
