- Mizudori (Waterfowl), 1970 -

The rare and striking woodblock print “Mizudori (Waterfowl),” 1970 by Takeji Asano features a bird reflected in still water, rendered with a bold yet minimalist color palette. Its strong contrasts and limited colors create an eye-catching composition. The dynamic, modern design makes this piece especially appealing for contemporary interiors and pairs beautifully with mid-century décor.

The Japanese title “水どり”, the artist’s hand-signed name “浅野竹二”, and the signature “T. Asano” appear in the lower margin. The number 222 (likely the artist’s design number) is noted at the lower right edge. The block signature “T.a.” is within the lower left of the image.

Condition: Overall, in good condition for its age. There is a faint tiny spot on the right margin and another on the bottom margin, as well as a couple of faint spots on the white bird in the image. There is also minor toning along the paper edge. As you can see in the photo, the margins show several ink smudges, which are characteristic of boldly crafted Sōsaku Hanga prints.
