- Matsuri (Festival) -

The striking silkscreen print 'Matsuri '(Festival) is by Tansetsu Ogino (b. 1939). The composition incorporates the kanji character 祭 (matsuri), meaning “festival,” rendered in a bold, contemporary style. A rich gold field contrasts dramatically with deep black, while expressive silver and vermilion lines give the composition energy and movement. The result is a sophisticated fusion of Japanese calligraphy and modern abstract art.

The edition number, title, and artist’s pencil signature appear in the lower margin, accompanied by the artist’s red seal. The edition was limited to only 100 impressions.

Born in Hyogo Prefecture, Ogino creates works based on calligraphic characters, combining traditional brushwork with a contemporary artistic sensibility. He studied under master calligrapher Bakuzan Sakaki (榊 莫山) and has worked across calligraphy, modern art, and design. His notable projects include the calligraphy for Suntory’s renowned 響 (Hibiki) whisky label, recognized in Japan and internationally.
