- Kono Kao (This Face), 1977 -

The rare and striking woodblock print “Kono Kao” (This Face) was created in 1977 by Takeji Asano. This vibrant abstract work suggests a human face through simplified forms and bold black lines. The artist's use of vivid color fields and expressive shapes creates a playful and visually engaging image that invites individual interpretation. Its dynamic, contemporary composition possesses a timeless quality, making it particularly well suited to modern interiors and mid-century décor.

The Japanese title “この顔”, the artist’s hand-signed name “浅野竹二”, and the signature “T. Asano” appear in the lower margin. The number 311 (likely the artist’s design number) is noted at the lower right edge. The block signature “T.a.” and the date ’77 appear within the lower left area of the image.

Condition: Overall, in excellent condition for its age. As shown in the photos, the print exhibits several ink smudges, which are characteristic of boldly executed Sosaku Hanga works and are consistent with the artist's printing process.
