The beautiful woodblock print Kōmei Bijin Rokkasen, Hinodeya Goke (The Widow of Hinodeya, from the series Renowned Beauties Likened to the Six Immortal Poets) is by Kitagawa Utamaro (1753–1806). This series depicts six beautiful women of the Edo period.

The woman is shown after her bath, without makeup, revealing her natural beauty. Her hairstyle clearly indicates that she is a widow, an interesting detail that identifies her status.

Originally printed during the Edo period, this is a recarved edition from the late Shōwa era (1980–1990). The Yuyudo publisher’s seal, along with the carver’s name, “Torazo Matsuda,” and the printer’s name, “Taizo Sato,” appear on the lower left margin. This woodblock print features high-quality colors, intricate details, and beautiful embossing. Please take a moment to appreciate the superb craftsmanship and fine details.
