The delightful woodblock print "Goldfish I" is by Kazuhiko Sanmonji (b. 1947). This charming composition depicts a graceful goldfish gliding peacefully through the water. The vibrant red-orange fish stands out beautifully against the deep blue background, while the subtle use of silver pigment creates a shimmering effect that evokes the gentle movement and cool tranquility of water. The simple yet elegant design gives the print a wonderfully fresh and refreshing atmosphere.
This is an Artist's Proof (A.P.), hand-signed and dated '88 by the artist in pencil below the image. The English title Goldfish I and the Japanese title are also handwritten in pencil along the lower margin.
Kazuhiko Sanmonji (b. 1947) is a contemporary Japanese woodblock print artist who studied traditional woodblock printing under Tadashi Nakayama. Since 1977, he has held numerous exhibitions in Japan as well as internationally, including in the United States and France. His works are included in the collection of the Honolulu Museum of Art.
