- Gokū (Offering) -

A marvelous lithograph, Gokū (Offering), by Kyosuke Tchinai (b. 1948). The composition features a large peony blossom placed in a ceramic vessel adorned with a matching peony motif. Rich in Oriental elegance, the image radiates quiet reverence and balance. A bold brushstroke at the top lends definition and visual strength to the composition. Gokū refers to offerings traditionally placed before a Buddha or a deity, imbuing the work with a sense of devotion and ritual. Printed on ivory-colored paper.

Kyosuke Tchinai (also spelled Chinai), born in Ehime Prefecture in 1948, is a renowned Japanese Western-style painter. He is celebrated for harmonizing Japanese aesthetics with Western techniques, creating dreamlike works often inspired by kimono motifs and the natural world. His paintings and prints are highly sought after by collectors both in Japan and internationally.
