The beautiful mezzotint print "Ginkaku-ji, Ginshadan" (The Temple of the Silver Pavilion, Kyoto) is by Atsuo Sakazume (b.1941). The print captures Ginshaden at the themple of the silver pavilion. Ginshaden translates as “Sea of Silver Sand,”  Next to the Kannon hall, you can see an meticulously maintained dry sand garden, known as Ginshadan, and the "Sea of Silver Sand", a massive sand cone named "Moon Viewing Platform".The modest appearance of Ginkaku-ji and the beautiful sand garden represent traditional Japanese beauty of “wabi-sabi”(simplicity and serenity). This print beautifully depict this simple beautiful garden by Mezzotint technic.

Atsuo Sakazume (b. 1941) was born in Numata City, Gunma Prefecture. He graduated from the Faculty of Engineering at Kyoto University in 1965, the same year he received the Grand Prix at the 5th Printmaking Grand Prix Exhibition. Around 1968, he began producing copperplate prints using the mezzotint technique, through which he developed his distinctive atmospheric style.

In 1970, Sakazume began exhibiting at the Japan Print Association Exhibition, continuing to participate annually thereafter. In 1974, he became a member of the Japan Print Association, a position he continues to hold today. In 1985, his work was included in the Contemporary Japanese Prints exhibition held at the British Museum.

Throughout his career, Sakazume has held numerous solo exhibitions and participated in many juried exhibitions both in Japan and internationally. His works are included in the collections of major institutions such as the Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art, The Museum of Kyoto, Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, Kitakyushu Municipal Museum of Art, the Tochigi Prefectural Museum of Fine Arts, and the British Museum, among many others.
