The serene woodblock print “Fuyu no Mogami-gawa” (Winter on the Mogami River) is by Tomikichiro Tokuriki. The print beautifully captures the breathtaking winter scenery of the Mogami River. During winter, the entire river basin is transformed by heavy snowfall and blanketed in white. The sight of a boat gliding through this snowy landscape, as depicted in this print, is especially evocative. The Mogami River—a rushing waterway that winds through Yamagata Prefecture—takes on a remarkably tranquil character amid the snow. Long celebrated by artists and poets, its winter beauty has inspired countless works. This print conveys that quiet charm with exceptional grace and atmosphere.

The print is pencil-signed “T. Tokuriki” in the lower margin. The artist’s signature and red seal, both reading “Tomi,” appear in the lower left corner of the image. The left margin includes the Japanese title “Fuyu no Mogami-gawa,” while the edition number appears in the lower right corner. The upper left margin also bears the artist’s distinctive “Tomi” watermark.
