- Botan Yuki (Peony Snowflakes) -

The elegant woodblock print Botan Yuki (Peony Snowflakes) is by Kotondo Torii (1900–1976). The large snowflakes, called "Botan Yuki," resemble delicate white peony petals. This print is part of the celebrated series Twelve Aspects of Woman, originally published in 1931.

This later edition, published by Ishu Kanko Kai, is limited to 100 prints and printed on fine Japanese Washi paper with the “Sanso” watermark. The carver is Susumu Ito, and the printer is Yoshiaki Watanabe. The print bears Torii’s red seal of approval and the publisher’s red moneybag seal, with the limited edition seal beneath the box.

Featuring exquisite Bokashi shading and highly detailed carving, especially in the depiction of individual hairs, this print captures the essence of Japanese Bijin-ga. A truly stunning and elegant work.
