This charming woodblock print, Sakuranbo (Cherries), is by Gashu Fukami, an artist known for portraying familiar subjects such as fruit, birds, cats, and other scenes from everyday life. In this composition, a slender glass bottle and two cherries are arranged with remarkable simplicity, creating a calm still life filled with clarity and gentle charm.

Restrained forms, soft color contrasts, and a spacious background give the work a beautiful sense of balance. Gashu Fukami (1953–2023), born in Kumamoto Prefecture, was a Japanese woodblock print artist known for his simple yet expressive style. After graduating from Doshisha University in 1976, he was inspired by renowned printmakers Umetaro Azechi and Takeji Asano to pursue woodblock printmaking. He later studied art in Boston before establishing studios in Kyoto, Nagasaki, and Fukuoka. His prints frequently portray familiar subjects—including cats, birds, flowers, fruit, and rural landscapes—with warmth, humor, and quiet charm.
