The dramatic woodblock print 'Takisan-ji Oni matsuri' (Takisan-ji Temple Demon Festival) is by Fumio Kitaoka (1918–2007) and was printed in 1977. This print beautifully captures the energy and excitement of the Takisan-ji Oni Matsuri (Fire Festival) in Aichi Prefecture, immersing the viewer in the power of the fire as if they are right there amidst the celebration.

Takisan-ji Oni matsuri (Takisan-ji Temple Demon Festival)

Takisan-ji Oni Matsuri (Takisan-ji Temple Demon Festival) is a celebration of peace and abundant harvest that has continued for 800 years since the Kamakura period. Commencing with a torch-bearing procession, various festivities unfold over about half a day. The pinnacle of the event, the 'Fire Festival,' is truly spectacular. More than 30 giant torches are brought into the main hall, a nationally important cultural property, where demons dance wildly while striking half bells and conch shells.
