- Hashiru Uma (Running Horse), 1979 -

The very rare woodblock print “Hashiru Uma” (Running Horse) by Takeji Asano features a horse rendered in a bold, full-frame composition. The lively subject reflects the artist’s distinctive sense of humor and joyful personality, while the horse is depicted with dynamic movement and vivid, expressive color.

This striking design was previously used for a flyer promoting Takeji Asano’s exhibition, underscoring its strong visual impact.

The Japanese title “走る馬,” the artist’s hand-signed name “浅野竹二,” and the signature “T. Asano” appear in the lower margin. The block signature “T.a.” with the date is printed within the image at the lower right. The number 335 (likely the artist’s design number) is noted along the lower right edge and the upper right margin.

Condition: Overall, in very good condition for its age, with minor age-related toning. There are small natural paper wrinkles on the top margin (right side). As shown in the photographs, the margins display several ink smudges, which are characteristic of boldly crafted Sōsaku Hanga prints.
