The small-format woodblock print “Okamochi” (Woman and Wooden Bucket) by Sumio Kawakami is a truly charming piece. Okamochi refers to a traditional wooden bucket used for carrying food outdoors. In this delightful print, a woman holds an okamochi, beautifully framed within the shape of a koban—the iconic gold coin from the Edo period. The scene feels cheerful and full of character. The artist’s block is signed “Sumi” on the lower right.
