This beautiful woodblock print "Tonami, Yashikirin no aruie (A House with windbreak trees at Tonami) is by Koichi Maeda. Absolutely beautiful colors and contrast. Maeda is very interested in "Yashiki-rin" (Windbreak trees). He has created some woodblock prints with this particular subject. Yashiki-rin (windbreak trees) around a home can reduce the cost of heating and cooling and save energy. Maeda saw different types of Yashiki-rin (Windbreak trees) in several places. Each place has a different style, depending on the weather, including the amount of snow and winds that they encounter. Maeda tries to show the difference of Japanese Yashiki-rin in his prints. Obtaining Yashiki-rin near households is a very traditional Japanese way, under the Japanese culture with wisdom and experience. Its rarity is one of the many beautiful aspects of Yashiki-rin. I truly admire his passion for incorporating many aspects of the Japanese culture in his woodblock prints.
