Rozanji Temple was built in the year 938 on a hill called Funaokayama situated on the northern outskirts of Kyoto by the priest Ganzan Daishi. It is one of the four temples that had an Okurodo (a private Buddhist chapel of the imperial family originally located in the Imperial Palace). These temples belonged directly to the Imperial Court as does Rozanji today. The moss and gravel garden at Rozan-ji temple is planted with bellflowers.

"Akafuku" (Sweet shop Akafuku) is by Katsuyuki Nishijima. Printed in 2004. This store is a very famous sweet shop "Akafuku" in Ise, Mie Prefecture. The wooden sign says "Akafuku", established in Hoei 4nen (since 1707). This is typical of Nishijima's style. Very bold and strong impression with beautiful contrast.

The amazing woodblock print "Murō-ji" (Murō-ji Temple in Spring, Nara) is by Masao Ido. Peaceful spring image of Murō-ji Temple in Nara. Here is a very spiritual place with wonderful nature. The air is always cool and refreshing. This is one of my favorite temples in Nara. Flying pink petals in the wind creates a very soft and beautiful atmosphere.

The amazing woodblock print "Miyako Odori" (Miyako Odori Festival) is by Katsuyuki Nishijima. Printed in 2011. This is a very famous Ochaya "Tomiyo" (1804 ~ ) in Gion, Kyoto. "Ochaya" is the room where there is Geisha or maiko. Noren cloth says "Tomi" from Tomiyo. Very colorful and cheerful. Very neat atmosphere. Nishijima's umbrella prints are very attractive and most popular. Hand-numbered, titled, and signed by the artist in pencil. Artist's official red "Shima" seal on the lower right of the image. Miyako Odori (Miyako Odori festival)
This dance is performed by the maiko and geiko of Gion Kobu. The first performance in 1872 was promoted as part of the Exhibition for the Promotion of Domestic Industry, as a measure to promote prosperity in Kyoto after the city's decline as a result of the capital having been moved to Tokyo in 1869. The infusion of new ideas into this annual event has made it very popular. It is now one of the main events in Kyoto.

The remarkable woodblock print "Ise-Shima Kokuritsu Koen" (Ise-Shima National Park) is by Hideo Nishiyama (1911-1989). Phenomenal nature image of Ise-Shima National Park at sunset. Printer: Shinmi, Carver: Nagashima, and Unsodo publisher seal on the left margin. Title "Iseshima Kokuritsu Koen" (Iseshima National Park), Artist's name "Nishiyama Hideo saku" and dated "Showa 35 nen" (1960) in Japanese on the right margin. "Gei" watermark on the upper left margin corner. Very different and unique style woodblock print. Hard to find these old original first edition prints nowadays.
Hideo Nishiyama (1911 - 1989) was born in Kyoto. He was a well-known (Nihon-ga) Japanese painting artist in Japan. Unsodo published "The Woodblock Prints -National Parks Series" by Hideo Nishiyama and Kaii Higashiyama in 1960.
Ise-Shima National Park
Ise-Shima National Park covers central Mie Prefecture, including most of the Shima Peninsula. It spans a vast area of almost 60,000 hectares. The inland area of the park boasts gentle mountain slopes and lush green forests that surround Ise Jingu, Japan's most important jinja (Shinto shrine) complex. Its precincts are seen as the heart of Japanese spirituality. The topographically varied coastline ranges from rugged outcrops to ancient rock ledges and sandy beaches. Unlike most national parks, Ise-Shima has a relatively large proportion of private land, and significant populations in four cities: Ise City, Toba City, Shima City, and Minami-Ise Town. The lives, history, culture, and customs of Ise-Shima's people are deeply connected to the park's natural landscapes. Since ancient times, they have lived with nature and respected the environment.
