- Hana, Pansy (Flowers, Pansy) -

The delightful woodblock print 'Hana, Pansy' (Flowers - Pansy) is by Kazuyuki Ohtsu. The print captures the vibrant colors of pansy flowers in a crystal glass container, set against a simple background of trees. Mr. Ohtsu mentioned that he unusually used bright white paper for this work (normally, he used cream-colored paper). Due to shortage of his paper, so he changed his plan and used bright white paper instead. This change turned out to be a success because the bright white paper created a beautiful contrast with the colorful pansy flowers, and he was very satisfied with the final result. He also told me that this design was a vision in his mind. I think he brought it to life amazingly through his masterful use of color and technique, including the use of mica.

This limited edition print is sheet number 22/60 and is titled, signed, and dated in the bottom margin in pencil by the artist. With a small edition size of only 60 sheets, it is a rare and unique work.
