The beautiful woodblock print Tôsei Odorikozoroe, Sagi Musume (The Heron Maiden, from the series Renowned Collection of Contemporary Dancers) is by Kitagawa Utamaro (1753–1806). This print elegantly depicts a woman adorned with floral motifs across her entire figure, set against a background of deep, shimmering silver mica. It is based on the immensely popular Kabuki dance performance Sagi Musume (The Heron Maiden), which tells a fantastical tale in which the spirit of a white heron transforms into a beautiful young woman. As she laments the anguish of unrequited love and her lingering attachments, she gradually vanishes amidst the falling snow.

Originally printed during the Edo period, this is a recarved edition from the late Shōwa era (1980–1990). The publisher is Yuyudo; however, this print is part of Utamaro’s ukiyo-e collection issued as “not for sale.” This woodblock print features high-quality colors and intricate details.
