- Nagasaki (Nagasaki Confucius Shrine) -

The superb woodblock print Nagasaki (Nagasaki Confucius Shrine) is by Junichiro Sekino. This work beautifully depicts the scenery of Nagasaki, often called the “city of hills.” Viewed from the top of a slope, layers of traditional Japanese rooftops overlap across the landscape, among which a yellow roof shines brightly. This Confucius-shrine stands out for the vivid red of its exterior walls and the luminous yellow of its roof. Its unusual form—a curved roof with uniquely elegant lines—creates a striking and distinctive focal point.

Through the gaps between the rooftops, lush green trees emerge, creating an atmospheric scene. Sekino’s masterful rendering of the roofs is especially impressive, perfectly capturing the character and rhythm of the cityscape.

The print is executed on special watermarked paper marked “Jun. Sekino.” The title Nagasaki, the artist’s handwritten signature “Jun Sekino,” and the artist’s red seal “Jun” appear in the lower right corner of the image

Condition: Overall, in good condition. There is minor toning and a few faint spots on the bottom margin, as well as one tiny spot on the lower right margin. These are minor and difficult to capture in photographs. There is also minor toning on the verso (white area) and tape residue along the top edge of the verso. Natural paper wrinkles are present on the top and bottom margins due to the handmade paper process. Please refer to the photographs for details. The price has been adjusted slightly. The image area is superb.
