- Ueno Toshogu - Tokyo Hakkei no Uchi (Toshogu Shrine, Ueno) -

The serene woodblock print "Ueno Toshogu - Tokyo Hakkei no Uchi" (Toshogu Shrine, Ueno) is by Shiro Kasamatsu, from the series "Eight Views of Tokyo."
It beautifully captures a peaceful spring scene at Ueno Toshogu Shrine, just after a rainfall. The recent rain has deepened the color of the old stone lanterns, and the soft reflections of cherry blossoms shimmer in the puddles. One can almost feel the cool, fresh air lingering in the atmosphere. Two women in vibrant kimonos, each holding an umbrella, bring a touch of color and life to the tranquil setting.

Signed 'Shiro' with a red seal in the lower right corner of the image. The Japanese title is in the upper left margin. The publisher's seal 'Unsodo,' the carver's name 'Nagashima,' and the printer's name 'Ichimura' are in the lower left margin.
