The beautiful mezzotint print “Dahlia” by Kazuo Yamaguchi (b. 1949) depicts an elegant still life of dahlias arranged in a rounded vase. Behind the flowers, a partial view of a female figure adds an unexpected human presence to the composition, while two glass marbles resting in the foreground provide a delicate accent.

Rendered in rich shades of black and grey, the velvety darkness characteristic of the mezzotint technique contrasts beautifully with the luminous flowers, the softly modeled figure, and the reflective surfaces of the glass marbles. Yamaguchi’s meticulous attention to texture and light gives the composition a remarkable sense of depth and quiet realism.

Pencil-signed by the artist, the print includes the edition number, date, and title in Japanese along the bottom margin. This impression is numbered 7/70. Yamaguchi is known for his highly detailed mezzotint still lifes, particularly compositions featuring flowers, fruit, and glass objects.
