This attractive stencil print (called Kappa-ban) "Murasaki Shikibu"(Lady Murasaki) is by Yoshitoshi Mori (1898-1992). Very famous novel "Genji Monogatari" (The Tale of Genji), which was written by Lady Murasaki-Shikibu in the Heian Period. The novel chronicled the life of Prince Genji and the people around him in the court. Countless stories, films, poems, and paintings have been made after this classic masterpiece of Japanese literature.
Very good impression and color. His works have very unique strength and purity of line. Nice ink bleeds through Japanese handmade washi paper.

Very retro-chic print with retro cars and modern buildings. This print is very unique. First printed in 1958. This is a later edition. Lovely tree print "Haru no tsuki" (Sprint Moon) is by great Japanese artist Joichi Hoshi. Titled "Haru no tsuki" (Spring Moon), hand-signed "J. 悟道の月, Godo no tsuki (Moon of Enlightenment) from Tsuki Hyakushi (One Hundred Aspects of the Moon)
Very beautiful woodblock print is by Yoshitoshi Tsukioka (1839-1892). "Godo no tsuki" (Moon of Enlightenment) from Tsuki Hyakushi (One Hundred Aspects of the Moon), this is a re-carved edition from the Showa era. First printed Meiji 21 nen (1888). Signed on the left of the image. This elegant re-carved edition is by Ukiyo-e Hanga Kankokai. Published by Nihon Bijutsuga kai. This reproduction set was sold only by the publisher in those days, not at dealers or bookstores. So it is really difficult to find nowadays. Copy right seal, Carver's name, Kentaro Maeda, Printer's name, Sakuji Tanaka on the verso. Selected great two carvers (Maeda and Okura) and two printers (Tanaka and Watanabe) worked on this project. It is a really high-quality print. The carving and the printing is faithful to the original. Just stunning and beautiful. Please see the details.
Hotei is pointing to the Moon. The moon symbolized "Enlightenment". Because the moon is the most beautiful circle on the universe in the Buddhist view.
Tsukioka Yoshitoshi(1839-1892) is a very famous Ukiyo-e artist. In 1850, when he was 11 years old, Yoshitoshi was apprenticed to Utagawa Kuniyoshi, one of the great masters of the Japanese woodblock print. Yoshitoshi created modern ukiyo-e depicting warriors, actors, and Bijin.

Lovely Maiko is playing the Japanese 鼓(Tsuzumi - traditional hand drum) which is used in traditional Japanese music. This is a gorgeous Bijin-ga woodblock print with spectacular colors. Beautifully embossed. You can see the beautiful Baren mark on the background. Her hair ornament, make-up, and nail polish are soft pink color like a cherry blossom. And these add a precious and fresh atmosphere to this beautiful print.
