Breathtaking woodblock print "Nara no shika" (Deer at Nara) is by Shiro Kasamtsu (1898 - 1992). This is one of my favorite Kasamatsu prints. The publisher is Watanabe. It has a Watanabe "D"seal (1931-1941) on the lower-right margin. Title "Nara no shika" on the left margin. A beautiful girl with a bright-colored Kimono and adorable deer against the subtle background. The girl is feeding the Shika senbei (Cracker for the deer) to the deer. Really heartwarming and charming subject. This print is really hard to find.

Striking print "Z-8" (Constellation Series) is by Ado Sato (1936 -1995). Beautiful abstract design with bright colors and curves. This print would be great for someone who is a Scorpio (birthday 10/24 -11/22). This is a pencil signed "Hodaka Yoshida", dated '73 and numbered 26/100 by the artist. Limited edition size of only 100 prints. Every year it is harder and harder to find Hodaka's print in excellent condition. Ado Sato was born in 1936 in Kanagawa, Japan. She was a Western-style painter. She moved to Paris in 1962 and she was active there. She won the first prize, the Figaro Award, at the 10th Japan-France Contemporary Art Exhibition held at the Grand Palais Museum and the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum. In addition, she produced a print collection "Paris" with very famous photographer Kishin Shinoyama and writer Jun Ishikawa. She passed away in 1995 in Tokyo, Japan. She was 58 years old.

Japanese woodblock print "Shiawase mitsumete" (Gazing at the Happiness) is by Fu Takenaka (1945- ) Now out of print. This is the last copy we have. In Japan, owls bring luck and offer protection from suffering. The reason can be found in the Japanese name for owl, Fukuro, which can be written in different sets of characters: One with the meaning of luck ( fuku, luck; ku, to come; ro suffix used in boys' names), and the other as protection from hardship ( fu, no, kurou hardship, suffering). Kaimami no Tsuki, Kaoyo (A Glimpse of the Moon - Kaoyo) from Tsuki Hyakushi (One Hundred Aspects of the Moon)
Very beautiful woodblock print is by Yoshitoshi Tsukioka (1839-1892). "垣間見の月 かほよ Kaimami no Tsuki, Kaoyo” (A Glimpse of the Moon - Kaoyo) from Tsuki Hyakushi (One Hundred Aspects of the Moon), is a re-carved edition from the Showa era. First printed in 1886 (Meiji 19nen). Signed on the lower left of the image. This elegant re-carved edition is by Ukiyo-e Hanga Kankokai. Published by Nihon Bijutsuga kai. This reproduction set was sold only by the publisher in those days, not at dealers or bookstores. So it is really difficult to find nowadays. Copy right seal, Carver's name, Kenji Okura, Printer's name, Akio Watanabe on the verso. Selected great two carvers (Maeda and Okura) and two printers (Tanaka and Watanabe) worked on this project. It is a really high-quality print. The carving and the printing is faithful to the original. Just stunning and beautiful. Please see the details.
Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (1839-1892) is a very famous Ukiyo-e artist. In 1850, when he was 11 years old, Yoshitoshi was apprenticed to Utagawa Kuniyoshi, one of the great masters of the Japanese woodblock print. Yoshitoshi created modern ukiyo-e depicting warriors, actors, and Bijin.
