- Tanpopo (Cat and Dandelion) -

The charming small-format woodblock print “Tanpopo” (Cat and Dandelion) is by Kazuyuki Ohtsu. Having noticed that the artist had previously created several works featuring this same cat, I once asked Mr. Ohtsu—out of simple curiosity—about the model behind it. He explained that the subject was a beloved fluffy cat he once owned. The deep affection he held for the animal quietly radiates throughout the composition, giving the work its gentle warmth and heartfelt charm.

Beside the cat, a humble dandelion blooms softly, adding a touch of quiet poetry to the scene. Though simple in subject, the print conveys a tender sense of companionship and tranquility, inviting the viewer into an intimate and peaceful moment.

Sheet number 31/60, titled in Japanese, signed, and dated “2026” in pencil by the artist along the bottom margin. A limited edition of only 60 impressions. Beautifully printed with lovely colors, with delicate mica shimmer applied to the cat’s body, lending the fur a soft and luminous presence.
