The small woodblock print 'Usuki Sekibutsu' (The Usuki Stone Buddhas) is by Unichi Hiratsuka (1895–1997). It depicts the National Treasure stone figures of Buddhas carved into rock in Usuki, Oita Prefecture. These sculptures are believed to have been created between the Heian period (794–1185) and the Kamakura period (1185–1333). Hiratsuka captures them beautifully in a striking black-and-white composition. The print is hand-signed, titled, and dated in pencil along the bottom margin, with a red seal reading Unichi Jitō (“carved by Unichi”) at the right edge of the image and the block signature “UN” in the lower left corner.
