The charming small-format woodblock print Tsutsumi Ningyo (Tsutsumi Doll) by Junichiro Sekino depicts a traditional Japanese clay doll dressed in a colorful patterned costume. Beautiful contrast, rich colors, and light embossing enhance its decorative details and cheerful expression.

Tsutsumi dolls are traditional clay figures produced in and around Tsutsumi-machi, at the northern edge of Sendai’s historic castle town.

The print remains tipped onto its white backing card. The artist’s name, the publisher’s name, Chikuhodo, and the copyright symbol (©) are printed on the lower portion of the card’s reverse, together with the Japanese wording for “hand-printed woodblock print.”
