Extremely rare woodblock print "Mai Ougi" (Fan for Japanese Dance) is by Shinmei Kato (1910-1998). 舞扇(Mai ougi) is a folding fan used in Japanese dances. This is a gorgeous Bijin-ga woodblock print with spectacular colors. The background is printed in gold mica. Her kimono, make-up, and nail polish are soft pink color like a cherry blossom. And these add a precious and fresh atmosphere to this beautiful print.
Published by Takamizawa. The title "Mai ougi" on the upper right margin. Carver name "Shigeru Koike" and Printer name "Hiroshi Orihara" on the lower left margin. "Hanken Shoyu - Kondo Koshiro" (Copyright -Koshiro Kondo) on the lower right margin. Edition number "121/300" in Japanese old Kanji is stamped on the label on verso. Artist hand-signed "Shinmei" and red "Takamizawa" publisher seal on the label on verso as well. Watermarked "Shinmei" on the upper left margin (corner).
