The fantastic woodblock print 'Kushiro Shitsugen – 2, Hokkaido Series' (Kushiro Wetlands II, from the Hokkaido Series) is by Yuji Watanabe. Rendered in luminous shades of blue, violet, and soft rose, the composition evokes the vast stillness of the Kushiro wetlands beneath a star-filled sky. The broad horizontal landscape, winding waterway, distant mountains, and delicate color gradations create a poetic vision of northern Japan, balancing serenity with quiet grandeur.

Yuji Watanabe is a Japanese woodblock print artist born in Mie Prefecture in 1941. Working with traditional Japanese woodblock-printing techniques, he has developed a distinctive contemporary vision of the Japanese landscape through layered color, delicate gradations, and lyrical compositions. His subjects often include seasonal scenery, mountains, waterways, grasses, and luminous skies.
