- Kanazawa Kenroku Kōen (Kenroku-en Garden, Kanazawa in Snow) -

The breathtaking woodblock print “Kanazawa Kenroku Kōen” (Kenroku-en Garden, Kanazawa in Snow) is by Tomikichiro Tokuriki (1902–2000). The print beautifully captures the serene winter atmosphere of Kenroku-en, one of Japan’s most celebrated gardens. Through an elegant composition and calming palette, Tokuriki conveys the quiet stillness of the snow-covered landscape with remarkable sensitivity.

Located in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, Kenroku-en is regarded as one of the Three Great Gardens of Japan. Among its most iconic features is the stone lantern beside the pond, designed in the form of a traditional Japanese koto (harp), which has become a symbol of the garden itself. Veiled in softly falling snow, the landscape appears especially poetic and tranquil.

The print is pencil-signed “T. Tokuriki” in the lower margin. The artist’s signature “Tomi” appears along the left edge of the image, accompanied by his red seal “Tomi” in the lower right corner. The right margin includes the Japanese title “Kanazawa Kenroku Kōen,” the date “Shōwa Mizunoe Inu-doshi” (corresponding to Shōwa 57, or 1982), “Shohan Nihyaku no Uchi” (First Edition, limited edition of 200), and the sheet number. The upper left margin bears the artist’s “Tomi” watermark.
