Artist's signature "Shoson" with the artist's red seal, and two Watanabe Seals in the lower right corner. Very soft romantic colors and amazing contrast. The theme of "Small birds in the plum blossoms" is found extensively in Japanese artistic tradition. Absolutely beautiful.
According to the Watanabe publisher, In conjunction with the Daihei Print Shop, Ryogoku, this artist made bird and flower designs for color prints under the name "Koson". In 1912, he changed his name to "Shoson" and produced only paintings until 1926, when he returned to color prints, which have been published in connection with the Watanabe print shop (Watanabe publisher).

The amazing woodblock print "Negai no Sakura" (Cherry Blossoms full of wishes) is by Kazuyuki Ohtsu. Mr. Ohtsu told me an interesting story about this print. This beautiful print recounts a very romantic story. This location (Fukushima prefecture) - where the cherry blossoms stand, was a meeting place for couples in the Japanese movie "First Love". After they meet, the couples would wish for their happiness together as a couple, This cherry tree would become a popular spot for couples. Mr. Ohtsu wanted to depict the warm romantic atmosphere surrounding this cherry tree. An image full of spring flowers with precision. Nice mica on the water.

Teruhide Kato had studied at Kyoto Art College. He was a famous kimono fashion designer. When he was 50 years old, he decided to follow his real passion and became a traditional Kyoto woodblock artist. Success remained with the artist. After a gallery exhibition in New York and a book publication of his works titled "Kyoto Romance", he is as famous as a woodblock artist as he used to be as a kimono designer. The wonderful Western-style woodblock print "Bara" (Roses) is by Sotaro Yasui (1888-1955). Rarely seen offered for sale. Printed in Showa 9 nen (1934). Published by Kyuryudo. Publisher name on the lower left margin and edition number on the bottom margin. Roses are a very famous and popular subject of his artworks. This old print is extremely rare and desirable. The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo has a copy of this print.
Sotaro Yasui was one of the Japanese famous Western-style painters/artists. In the 1930s, Kyuryudo publisher released several woodblock prints by Sotaro Yasui. In 1936, Kiyoshi Saito was inspired by Yasui's woodblock prints, especially "Girl in New Year Clothes" and started making woodblock prints while being self-taught. Sotaro Yasui had a strong influence on Kiyoshi Saito who later became the worldwide famous artist.

These lovely diptych prints are "Index of the Series - Thirty-Six Images of Beauty -" by Toshikata Mizuno (1866-1908). These are the index pages, however, they are truly elegant and would be a nice oriental decor in your room. Published and printed by Buemon Akiyama in December 1893 (Meiji 26 nen). Very good impression and colors. Beautifully embossed. This 128-year-old print still has magnificent colors, considering its age. This fine diptych would also look great framed.
