The breathtaking woodblock print ' Shumoshuku Airen-zu'(Zhou Maoshu Admiring Lotuses) is by Masanobu Kano (1434-1530), a renowned Japanese Nihon-ga painter of the Kano school. Originally painted during the Muromachi period (15th century), the original have been designated a National Treasure and now held in the Kyushu National Museum, Japan. This print captures very peaceful scenery. A willow tree stands on the shore of the waterfront, swaying in the gentle breeze. Beneath it are two figures in a boat drifting among lotuses. The figure on the left is said to be Zhou Maoshu (1017-73), a Chinese Confucian scholar from the Northern Song dynasty (960-1279) who was famous for his appreciation of lotuses.

The print was published by Tansei-sha in 1983. The publisher's seal, the printer's name 'Kurazo Yoneda,' and the carver's name 'Sadao Uetani' are located in the left margin. It comes with original explanatory paper (Japanese only, no English)

Condition: Excellent condition. Typical printer's ink smudges on the right margin, which will be easily matted out. There is once taped and a paper scuff on the top edge of the verso.
