- Kanda-gawa, Inokashira Atari (Kanda River, Around Inokashira) -

The evocative woodblock print “Kanda-gawa, Inokashira Atari” (Kanda River, Around Inokashira) is by Ayomi Yoshida (b. 1958), from the series One Hundred Views of Tokyo: Message to the 21st Century. A member of the third generation of women artists in the distinguished Yoshida family, Ayomi is the daughter of Hodaka Yoshida and Chizuko Yoshida, inheriting a remarkable artistic legacy while shaping a voice entirely her own.

This large-format print offers a mesmerizing vision of the Kanda River’s surface, as though we are gazing directly into water illuminated by the fading light of sunset. Through exquisitely delicate carving, Yoshida renders the shimmer and movement of water in an almost abstract language of line and color. The river becomes more than a landscape — it feels like a quiet emotional space, as if the artist’s own sensations have been gently carved into the woodblock itself.

The sheet number, Japanese title, artist’s signature, and date appear along the bottom margin. Ayomi Yoshida’s works are seldom encountered on the market, and other impressions of this print are held in the collections of the British Museum and the Art Institute of Chicago.
