Wonderful woodblock print 東風俗 福つくし 子福者 "Azuma Fuzoku Fukutsukushi - Kofukusha" (A Collection of Happiness, Customs in the East: "Having Many Children") is by Chikanobu Hashimoto/Yōshū (1838-1912). 子福者(Kofukusha) means a person (blessed) with many children. The title and subtitle in the upper right of the image. The publisher's name is "武川卯之吉”(Takekawa Unokichi), his address, date "Meiji 23 nen" (1890), and the artist's name "Chikanobu hitsu" on the lower right of the image. This print illustrates a happy large family. Very heartwarming subject.

(In general woodblock prints, woodblock cut out in the vertical direction are used.) When carving woodblock, a special tool called an engraver's burin is used. It can create thin and delicate lines. There are not many woodblock print artists who use this method these days.

Truly heartwarming Mezzotint etching print "Boshi-zaru" (Mother and Child Monkey) is by Japanese artist Koji IKUTA (b.1953). Limited Edition 3/95, dated 2004. This is pencil signed by the artist, dated, and titled in Japanese by the artist. Paper has deeply embossed seal "Koji Ikuta". Limited edition size of only 95 sheets. A truly amazing image. Mother monkey holding her child because a hug is worth a thousand words. Falling heart-shaped flower petals add a very charming atmosphere.
