- AKIHABARA (Akihabara, Tokyo) -

The modern woodblock print AKIHABARA (Akihabara, Tokyo) is by Satoru Matsushita (b. 1957). This unique, large-format work combines the silhouette of the Akihabara streetscape—Tokyo’s famed Electric Town—with nostalgic electronic items, creating a composition that feels both simple and warm. The sheet number, Japanese title, artist’s signature, and date appear along the bottom margin.

Matsushita was born in Tokyo in 1957. He graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts in 1981 and completed his graduate studies there in 1983. He has received numerous awards, including the Japan Print Association Encouragement Award, the Purchase Award at the Promising New Artists Printmaking Grand Prize Exhibition, and the Runner-up Prize at the Kawakami Sumio Museum of Art Woodblock Print Grand Prize Exhibition.
