The exquisite silkscreen print "Tsuru no Mai" (Crane Dance, Hokkaido) is by Masaaki Tanaka (b. 1947). This print captures the exotic Crane Dance in Hokkaido and is a stunning representation of the region, known for its rich cultural heritage. Crane Dance is a popular traditional dance performed by the Ainu during special ceremonies. The dancers lift their coats up behind them, symbolizing a crane's wings. In Hokkaido, Ainu culture was established around the 13th century. The Ainu people are the indigenous people of Japan, mainly living in Hokkaido. They have their own unique culture, language, and traditions that are different from the rest of Japan.
