The remarkable woodblock print 'Matsutaka-zu' (Hawk and Pine Tree) is by Tanyu Kano (1602-1674), a renowned Japanese Nihon-ga painter of the Kano school. Originally painted on a wall in Nijo-jo Castle in Kyoto during the Edo period (1626), it has been designated as a national treasure and revered as a true masterpiece. This print was published by Tansei-sha in 1983. The publisher's seal, the printer's name 'Kurazo Yoneda,' and the carver's name 'Sadao Uetani' are located in the left margin. It comes with an original explanatory paper (Japanese only, no English).
