The magnificent woodblock print 'Asian – Tana ni aru Kuri' (Chestnuts on the Shelf, from the Asian Series) is by Mitsuru Hiraki (b. 1958). Printed in 2022 in a limited edition of only 30, this impressive large-format piece is part of his popular Asian Series. With its cool, colorful palette and captivating design, the artwork instantly draws the viewer in, evoking the feeling of being transported into a fantasy world. The pop-inspired, rhythmic composition harmonizes perfectly with the exotic Asian aesthetic. This work beautifully showcases Mr. Hiraki's exceptional artistic sensibility and masterful technique. A truly stunning piece of art.
Mr. Hiraki shared the following about his creative process:
“The colors in my work are vibrant and shining. The shapes I mainly use are seeds, fruits, flowers, hearts, etc., which have the power to sprout. My recent works are part of the Asian Series and incorporate dyed patterns (batik) from Southeast Asian fabrics as backgrounds. These traditional motifs—based on familiar flowers and butterflies—are full of the vitality of people living in Asia. I use them because I want to incorporate that energy into my work.”
