The fantastic silkscreen print 'Omizutori' (Omizutori Festival, Nara) is by Masaaki Tanaka (b. 1947). This print captures the beauty and vibrancy of one of Japan's most famous festivals, the Omizutori Festival, which takes place at the Nigatsu-do of Todai-ji Temple in Nara. It is a traditional event that has continued for over 1200 years. This print depicts a dramatic fire at night during the festival. I have personally witnessed this dynamic scene of sparks dancing before, and it was an amazing experience. This is a truly striking print, with the sheet number, Japanese title, and signature hand-signed on the bottom margin.
Masaaki Tanaka was born in Tokyo in 1947. He graduated from Musashino Art University with a major in oil painting in 1971. He educated himself in silkscreen after learning woodblock printmaking and stone lithography while making repeated visits to Europe and the United States. His silkscreen shows Japanese traditional festivals or cultures. His work is found in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Honolulu Museum of Art, and the Albrecht Fine Art Museum. Now he is a well-known silkscreen artist. His collectors are based worldwide.

The breathtaking woodblock print 'Omoide' (Memory) is by Kazuyuki Ohtsu. I had the pleasure of speaking with Mr. Ohtsu about this print, and he shared with me that it holds a special place in his heart as a memory of a place he visited with his master, Kiyoshi Saito. They visited Aizu together many times over the years, and this print represents their first visit together as master and disciple that left a lasting impression on Ohtsu.
The snow-covered village and its people are depicted with mastery and skill, showcasing the beauty and warmth of Aizu. Kiyoshi Saito remains in Ohtsu's heart, and this print is a tribute to their wonderful memories together, hence the title 'Omoide' (Memory). The print exudes a heartfelt mood and creates a peaceful atmosphere, making it a perfect addition to any art collection. Only 50 sheets of this limited edition print are available.
