Originally printed in the Edo period (ca. 1790) as part of the Kyoka-book. Kyoka is a Japanese parody poem. This is a recarved edition by Yuyu-do, with the publisher's seal, carver's name 'Torazo Matsuda,' and printer's name 'Tadao Endo' on the right margin. It features wonderful details and a slight embossing, characteristic of high-quality woodblock prints by this famous publisher. Please take a moment to appreciate the beautiful details. The printer is Kikuo Gosho. It is still adhered to the original presentation paper, which bears information including the title (later print), artist's name, edition number, printer's name, date, and publisher's name.

Ted Colyer was born in Canada in 1947. He studied traditional woodblock printmaking under Toshi Yoshida in Tokyo during 1972 -1975. He became a popular Western artist in Japan. He lived in Tokyo for 17 years and returned to Canada in 1988. His work is featured in collections all over the world.

This attractive stencil print (called Kappa-ban) "Murasaki Shikibu"(Lady Murasaki) is by Yoshitoshi Mori (1898-1992). Already matted (double mat) and ready to frame. Very famous novel "Genji Monogatari" (The Tale of Genji), which was written by Lady Murasaki-Shikibu in the Heian Period. The novel chronicled the life of Prince Genji and the people around him in the court. Countless stories, films, poems, and paintings have been made after this classic masterpiece of Japanese literature.
Very good impression and color. His works have very unique strength and purity of line. Nice ink bleeds through Japanese handmade washi paper.

The amazing woodblock print "Murō-ji" (Murō-ji Temple in Spring, Nara) is by Masao Ido. Peaceful spring image of Murō-ji Temple in Nara. Here is a very spiritual place with wonderful nature. The air is always cool and refreshing. This is one of my favorite temples in Nara. Flying pink petals in the wind creates a very soft and beautiful atmosphere.
Murō-ji Temple is a Buddhist temple belonging to the Shingon school, located in the city of Uda, Nara Prefecture. Its five-storied pagoda is one of the oldest standing pagodas in Japan, dating its construction to the 9th century. (Source: Wikipedia)

The amazing woodblock print "Muroto Misaki" (Cape Muroto) was designed by Wasaku Kobayashi (1888–1974) and carved & printed by Tomikichiro Tokuriki (1902–2000). A wonderful collaborative artwork by two famous Japanese artists. Very large size print. It features the spectacular seascape of Cape Muroto in Kochi Prefecture. Artist's red seal "Wasaku" and sheet number "92/200" in the lower left corner of the image. Japanese title "Muroto Misaki", "Ga, Kobayashi Wasaku" (painting/design), "Han, Tokuriki Tomikichiro" (carved and printed), date "1961", and edition number "92/200" in Japanese Kanji on verso. I visited here with my family several times because it is my mother's favorite spot. This dynamic seascape image was captured with precision by the artist. The view from my memory and this seascape linked perfectly and evoked a wonderful memory.
Wasaku Kobayashi (1888-1974) was a famous Japanese painter who studied Japanese-style painting at first and later changed to Western-style painting.
Cape Muroto: Cape Muroto is a well-known, unique landscape that has been shaped by volcanic activity, wind, and sea and is a UNESCO Global Geopark.

The breathtaking woodblock print 'Nachi no taki, Seigantoji' (Nachi Falls, Seiganto-ji Temple) is by Kazuyuki Ohtsu. This woodblock print depicts the triple pagoda towering amidst beautiful fresh greenery and the Nachi Falls. I have also had the privilege of visiting this place, and the sight of water cascading down the vertical cliffs from deep within the Kumano mountain range is truly breathtaking in its beauty. This exquisite print conveys a spiritual atmosphere. It was part of a limited edition, with only 66 sheets produced, in addition to 7 artist proofs (AP). The sheet is numbered as AP 6/7 and is titled, signed, and dated '2018' in the bottom margin in pencil by the artist.

Fine Ukiyo-e print "Kabuki Actor: Nakamura Fukusuke" (right side) and "Kabuki Actor: Onoe Kikugoro" (left side) are by Utagawa Kunimasa IV (Utagawa Kunisada III) (1848–1920). They are from the famous Kabuki play " Yoshitsune Senbon zakura" (Yoshitune's one thousand Cherry blossoms trees). Originally they are triptych, however, they are only two prints. The title "Nakamura Fukusuke as Minamoto Yoshitsune" and "Onoe Kikugoro as Kitsune Tadanobu" on the upper left of the image (each). Artist's signature "Baido Kunimasa hitsu" on the upper right of the Nakamura Fukusuke print. Date "Meiji", artist (painter) "Takeuchi Eikyu" (Kunimasa's real name), and publisher "Hasegawa Sonokichi" on the left of the image on the Onoe Kikugoro print. They are rare and beautiful Ukiyo-e prints with amazing colors.
Utagawa Kunisada III (1848–1920) was an ukiyo-e printmaker of the Utagawa school, specializing in yakusha-e (pictures of kabuki actors). He originally signed his prints “Kunimasa" or "Baidō Kunimasa".

Wonderful woodblock print Kabuki Actor 中村宗十郎 "Nakamura Sojuro" as 板倉内膳正 "Itakura Naizennosho" is by Yoshitaki Nakai/Utagawa (1841-1899). Yoshitaki was the most prolific designer of woodblock prints in Osaka from the 1860s to the 1880s.

The lovely cat print "Nakayoshi no Neko" (Friendly Cats) is by Tomoo Inagaki (1902-1980). It is still tipped on the original presentation paper and comes with an explanation paper. Original limited edition print is very hard to find. Title, artist's name, edition number, and publisher's seal on the presentation paper. Very bold and strong colors.
Inagaki Tomoo was born in Tokyo. Inagaki is best known for his images of cats in modern style. Especially his cat print in excellent condition is very hard to find.

Breathtaking woodblock print "Nara no shika" (Deer at Nara) is by Shiro Kasamtsu (1898 - 1992). This is one of my favorite Kasamatsu prints. The publisher is Watanabe. It has a Watanabe "D"seal (1931-1941) on the lower-right margin. Title "Nara no shika" on the left margin. A beautiful girl with a bright-colored Kimono and adorable deer against the subtle background. The girl is feeding the Shika senbei (Cracker for the deer) to the deer. Really heartwarming and charming subject. This print is really hard to find.

The beautiful woodblock print 'Natsu no Sugata' (Summer Style) is by Sentaro Iwata (1901–1974). The print features a portrait of a beautiful woman in traditional Japanese kimono, standing elegantly with her eyes cast downward. Published by Watanabe, it is a limited edition with only 480 copies. However, there is no edition number on the print. Sentaro Iwata was born in Asakusa, Tokyo. He studied under Shinsui Ito and later worked as an illustrator. His Bijin-ga prints are very popular worldwide.

The wonderful woodblock print "Natsuyakko" (Summer Geisha) is by Kotondo Torii. This is one of "Twelve Aspects of Woman". The young geisha is wearing summer Kimono and has light makeup on. The fresh blue background adds a precious atmosphere to this beautiful print. Light embossing on the fan, hair ornament, and kimono. Please see incredible Bokashi shading and highly detailed carving, especially her individual hairs. Originally published in 1934, this print is a later edition by Aratama Kanko Kai Limited edition of 100 prints published. Printed on beautiful Japanese washi paper with "Sanso" watermarked.
